Connectedness of the Arnold Tongues for Double Standard Maps

چکیده

We show that Arnold tongues for the family of double standard maps fa,b(x) = 2x+ a− (b/π)sin(2πx) are connected. This proof is accomplished in the complex domain by means of quasiconformal techniques and depends partly upon the fact that the complexification of fa,b, has only one critical orbit taking symmetry into account.

On the tip of the tongue . . .

Recently we investigated the family of double standard maps of the circle onto itself, given by fa,b(x) = 2x + a + b π sin(2πx) (mod 1). Similarly to the family of Arnold standard maps of the circle, Aa,b(x) = x + a + b 2π sin(2πx) (mod 1), if 0 < b ≤ 1 then any such map has at most one attracting periodic orbit. The values of the parameters for which such orbit exists are grouped into Arnold t...

Computing Arnol′d tongue scenarios

A famous phenomenon in circle-maps and synchronisation problems leads to a two-parameter bifurcation diagram commonly referred to as the Arnold tongue scenario. One considers a perturbation of a rigid rotation of a circle, or a system of coupled oscillators. In both cases we have two natural parameters, the coupling strength and a detuning parameter that controls the rotation number/frequency r...

Differentiability at the tip of Arnold tongues for Diophantine rotations: numerical studies and renormalization group explanations

We study numerically the regularity of Arnold tongues corresponding to Diophantine rotation numbers of circle maps at the edge of validity of KAM theorem. This serves as a good test for the numerical stability of two different algorithms. We conclude that Arnold tongues are only finitely differentiable and we also provide a renormalization group explanation of the borderline regularity. Further...

Arnold Disks and the Moduli of Herman Rings of the Complex Standard Family

We consider the Arnold family of analytic diffeomorphisms of the circle x 7→ x + t + a 2π sin(2πx) mod (1), where a, t ∈ [0, 1) and its complexification fλ,a(z) = λze a 2 (z− 1 z , with λ = ea holomorphic self map of C. The parameter space contains the well known Arnold tongues Tα for α ∈ [0, 1) being the rotation number. We are interested in the parameters that belong to the irrational tongues...

The qualitative behavior of coupled predator-prey oscillations as deduced from simple circle maps

Qualitative patterns of the non-equilibrium behavior of coupled consumer/resource systems, formulated as a standard circle map, are explored. Patterns of demographic locking, reflected as a "devil's staircase", are observed in simulations of the MacArthur consumer/resource equations. As coupling strength increases the steps in the staircase become broader, eventually overlapping to form a chaot...
